Bhutan Trekking

Crossing a pass on the Laya trekRemote and rarely visited, the unspoiled mountainous kingdom of Bhutan lies in a hidden corner of the eastern Himalaya. Buddhism has been integral to the make up of the kingdom since the 7th century and a deep and traditional reverence for nature has led to Bhutan imposing some of the strictest standards of environmental preservation in the world. In this country known as Druk Yul, 'the land of the Thunder Dragon', the visitor will find a combination of harmony and accord, amongst incredible natural beauty. The air is clean and unpolluted, the mountains are magnificent and the architecture is inspiring. Perhaps most well-known for its extravagant Buddhist festivals or tsechus, Bhutan also has some of the world's finest treks which often approach the unknown giant peaks on the country's northern border with Tibet. Thanks to the protective interest of the Bhutanese Government, only a small number of treks are accessible. However, over a period of more than a decade, KE has been able to explore new and exciting variations to the offered routes and the resulting programme of KE treks includes some of the most spectacular hiking in the entire Himalaya.
Arriving in the Paro valley in the west of the country, many people's first impression of the country will be dominated by the sight of the unlikely cliff-side monastery of Taktsang and the stunning fortress-monastery of Paro Dzong. Unique to Bhutan, there are dzongs throughout the country, with those at Thimpu and Punakha.being particularly impressive.
KE can offer the chance to explore this beautiful country in a variety of ways and whichever trek you choose, we are confident that all that is special about Bhutan will be revealed, whether it be from the summit of a high mountain pass, by attending one of its colourful festivals or simply through the charm and hospitality of its people.
