Sri Lanka is a paradise island that really does have it all! Within its compact teardrop form, you will find rolling green hills, turquoise lakes, tea plantations, tropical jungle, savannah grassland and some of the best beaches in the entire sub-continent. Sri Lanka also has a fascinating 2000 year history and there are ancient abandoned cities, impressive temple complexes, a gigantic rock fortress, and ex-colonial hill stations which still look like English villages. Because of the small distances involved it is relatively easy to see Sri Lankas major sights in a 5 day tour. This extension is customisable with the option to add extra days at the beach resort at Hikaduwa.
Arriving in Sri Lanka we have two nights in the beautifully tranquil Chaaya Village resort beside Harbanna Lake at the heart of Sri Lanka's 'cultural triangle'. This is the perfect base for visits to the medieval capital of Polonnaruwa and the amazing World Heritage Sigiriya Rock Fortress. While staying at Chaaya Village will also take a ride through the countryside on elephant back. Next we travel to Kandy, another World Heritage site and the location of the 'Temple of the Tooth'. From here we take a toy train which climbs through tea plantations up into Sri Lanka's pretty Hill Country. From rolling green hills we then transfer to the coast and the golden sands of Hikkaduwa, ending this highlights tour with some R&R on one of Sri Lanka's most popular beaches famed for its coral reef. The example itinerary below is for a tour with 1 night at the Chaaya Beach Hotel in Hikkaduwa, but you can easily extend your stay with extra nights at this excellent spa hotel. Just contact the KE office for further details.
