Situated on the equator, the East Africa country of Kenya has an Indian Ocean coastline and also has 160 kilometres of coastline on the eastern side of the vast Lake Victoria. Its biggest peak is Mount Kenya (5199m / 17,057ft), situated to the north-east of the capital, Nairobi. This quite rarely visited peak is a great objective for a trekking group and can be traversed within the course of a holiday as short as 8 days. Northern Kenya also works well for school groups, looking to combine the Mount Kenya trek with the experience of meeting the Samburu people. The biggest peak in all of Africa, Kilimanjaro (5895m / 19,332ft), lies just a few kilometres beyond Kenya's southern border with Tanzania. Kenya has a large number of impressive national parks and games reserves, such as the Masai Mara, Tsavo and Amboseli. These parks provide first-class game viewing with spectacles like the annual wildebeest migration and a real chance to spot the 'Big Five' animal species: lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros and elephant.
