Our holiday extensions in Jordan can take you to any place that may not be included on your main holiday itinerary. You can opt to have extra nights in Aqaba to relax enjoying the watersports and beaches, or spend some time with the Bedouin in Wadi Rum, or if you have a day to spare at the beginning or the end of your trip, we can offer a tour of the Roman city of Jerash. Our extensions are easy to add to your holiday. Since extensions may affect your international flight schedule you should consider booking these at the same time as your main holiday. Aqaba on the Red Sea, with its warm temperatures, is the prefect place for some relaxation after your adventure holiday. It is said that some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world can be found in Aqaba. The lack of strong currents, together with the warm sea temperature, creates perfect conditions for coral growth and this has resulted in fabulous underwater life. You can also swim with sea turtles and dolphins amongst schools of multi-coloured fish or take a glass-bottomed boat ride over the reefs. There is also, of course, the option to simply relax in the sun on the sandy beaches.
Located 15 kilometres from Aqaba town centre, the Marina Plaza Hotel has great access to the beach and diving. This contemporary hotel boasts a superb coastal location, with a pleasant sandy beach. It has a pool, restaurant and bar, a spa and access to the private beach club with a full service beach bar. There is also a free shuttle bus 5 times a day into Aqaba town centre. From the hotel you can book or hire equipment for snorkelling, diving, boat trips, banana tubing, canoeing and beach volleyball. Other excursions or activities such as sailing, windsurfing and PADI courses are also possible from Tala Bay. The hotel has a Green Key certificate for its environmentally friendly practices. Instead of travelling back from Petra to Amman Airport on the last day of your main trip, you will take a private transfer to Aqaba and your hotel. After your 2 night stay in Aqaba, you will transfer in the afternoon by private vehicle to Amman Airport for your flight home. At additional cost, this final transfer can be diverted via the Dea Sea.

Water is a precious resource in Jordan, which is one of the water-poorest nations in the world. Rivers that run all year round are rare and it is just this scarcity that makes the experience of canyoning in Jordan so magical. Depending on the time of year and which rivers are at the correct levels we choose a suitable gorge for the day trip. With our experienced local guide we spend the day abseiling into the gorges, through waterfalls, canyoning down the river and scrambling over the rocky sections. This is a fun, adrenalin-filled, action-packed day ending with our return to the hotel beside the Dead Sea.
Our extension starts with an overnight beside the Dead Sea in our comfortable hotel. The following day we meet our experienced local guide and transfer to the gorge he has chosen for us. We may have to walk a short distance to the gorge, depending on the conditions. The rest of the day is filled with scrambling, canyoning and abseiling through the gorge, waterfalls and river. A huge amount of fun. At the end of the day our guide returns us to the hotel at the Dead Sea where we can relax and we stay overnight before transferring to Amman Airport the following day.

Jerash is one of the best preserved Roman cities in all of the Middle East and only an hour north of Amman. This extension works for those of our holidays that end with a hotel night in Madaba and which use Royal Jordanian flights. Within the remaining city walls archaeologists have found ruins of settlements dating back to the Neolithic age, indicating human occupation for more than 6500 years. Jerash is most famous for its Triumphal Arch, the Hippodrome, baths, and the wide street of columns leading to the Temple of Artemis. We can also opt to see the Chariot Show in the Hippodrome with fully armed legionaries, gladiators and of course chariot racing! An additional Madaba hotel night and a transfer to Amman Airport is included.
Our private local expert city guide meets us at the hotel after breakfast and we transfer to Jerash. We have a full day exploring and learning about the main sites here of the ancient city. Rising abruptly from the desert plains, the red-ochre sandstone mesas of Wadi Rum provide one of the worlds most dramatic landscapes, famously described by T.E. Lawrence as Rum the magnificent vast, echoing and God-like. We explore this traditional hunting ground of the Bedouin by foot or jeep, following ancient trails through hidden canyons and across open desert. Within the formations we can see ancient rock paintings. Whilst here we camp with the Bedouin either under the starry skies or in a tent. The peace and sheer beauty of this area makes it well worth a little side trip when already in Jordan!
When the main group heads north on the final day of the holiday, you will take a private transfer from Petra to Wadi Rum. Arriving at Wadi Rum, you will meet your Bedouin hosts and have the rest of the day to soak up the desert atmosphere, before settling down to camp under the stars. Day 2 is a full day of trekking in the region with a second night under canvas in the Wadi Rum National Park. On Day 3, the morning is free before taking a private transfer north on the Desert Highway to Amman Airport. There is the option at additional cost to take a diversion on the final transfer via the Dead Sea.
