Montenegro

Montenegro's history is far to complex to discuss here, but in recent times it has been a part of the Ottoman Empire and from 1918 it was a part of Yugoslavia, with its independence only being confirmed on 3rd June, 2006. Montenegro is a member of the UN and of the World Trade Organization and is currently a candidate for membership of the European Union. Within this relatively small country, there is tremendous scope for adventure holidays, both on foot and by mountain bike. A national network of 3000 kilometres of hiking and biking trails gives access to a wilderness of high valleys, home to sleepy villages and remote mountain pasture.
