The Back Door to Machu Picchu
Crossing the awe-inspiring canyon of the Apurimac River and making a loop through the rugged Cordillera Vilcabamba, the Choquequirao to Machu Picchu trek is arguably the best way to approach South America's most famous archaeological site. An early highlight of the walk is the breath-taking 400 year-old Inca citadel of Choquequirao - rarely visited, still being uncovered and destined to be bigger and more impressive than its better-known 'sister'. As we approach the 100th anniversary of Hiram Bingham's 'discovery' of Machu Picchu (on 24 July), a recent article in the New York Times makes inspirational reading, and check out the short video. With our advertised dates having sold out, we have added two new departures on 11 September and 6 November.

Follow Ade Summers' facebook blog - live!
For a unique insight into what it's like to take part in one of the world's greatest mountaineering treks, follow KE leader, Ade Summers as he and 8 intrepid clients tackle the Great Karakoram Traverse. Last week the group flew to the remote Baltistani capital of Skardu to begin their month-long adventure amongst some of the most spectacular peaks on earth. Linking together 3 great glacial systems and crossing 2 high mountaineering passes, Ade describes this as his 'dream trip'. Ade will be sending us regular text⁄sms messages via satellite phone, which we will publish on our facebook page. The Karakoram remains one of the world's greatest adventure travel destinations - our first K2 and Concordia group of the year returned pretty much blown away by their experiences.

Kit Wilkinson reports on brand new Colombia trek
North-east of Bogota, close to the border with Venezuela, the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy rise above a picturesque region where the traditional woollen poncho or 'ruana' continues to be worn by men and women alike. A 5-day trek runs north to south through the heart of this almost unknown Andean range and includes a succession of scenic camping places alongside stunning glacial lakes.
Back at his desk after accompanying the first KE group to visit this charming and colourful country, Kit Wilkinson is making some minor improvements to the way this excellent holiday will work for the next group - CAT.2, which is guaranteed.
