Everest Base Camp

At the foot of Mount Everest, on its southern side, lies the Everest Base Camp used by the successful 1953 expedition of Hilary and Tenzing and countless Everest expeditions ever since. Although situated in the heart of the Himalayas in Nepal, at a height of 5600m metres (18,370ft), an Everest Base Camp Trek is not the sole preserve of high altitude mountaineers. There are no rocky ridges to traverse, nor scrambling or technical climbing, just a well-graded path, accessible to all keen hikers and trekkers, which leads all the way to the foot of the world’s highest mountain.

Everest ViewOne element that should not be underestimated however, is the altitude at which your trek  along the Everest trail  will be. The key to trekking to Everest Base Camp is careful pacing and plenty of time to acclimatise. With more than twenty three years’ experience of organising Himalayan treks you can be sure that all KE treks to Everest Base Camp allow optimum acclimatisation - with some days spent either resting or walking for a couple of hours.

When choosing a trip to Everest Base Camp you can also opt to see Everest from Kala Patar, the viewpoint peak near Everest Base Camp. This peak, more than Base Camp itself, offers the best close-up views of Everest. As we appreciate that reaching Everest Base Camp is the pinnacle for many trekkers and walkers, all of our Everest  trek itineraries include both the Basecamp and Kalar Patar.
