Trekking Mount Toubkal in Winter
By: David Kelley, Plymouth, UK
A great trip, well organised and pitched at the right level for an intro to winter walking, I would definitely recommend this trip to friends. It was a great holiday, well paced and structured.
I most enjoyed the extra days spent around Imlil, mixing with local life, and the relaxed acclimatisation treks. Our guide was always cheerful, very approachable, full of advice and inspiration to make further trips.
Mont Blanc Snow Shoe Week
By: Russell Jefford, Buckinghamshire, UK
The quantity & quality of info on the website & trip dossier are real selling points - all looks very professional and creates a good impression and builds anticipation. The kind of nerd (like me) who reads technical swing tickets on goretex jackets laps up this kind of thing...
Winter Wonderland - Sweden Family Adventure
By: Elizabeth A Wickham, Kent, UK
was an action-packed programme of activities which provided everyone with new
and exciting experiences. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the
food was typically regional and beautifully presented.
This was an ideal family adventure holiday, with a varied and lively programme of activities, which provided us all (aged 8 to nearly 70) with new and exciting experiences.
We loved venturing out into the vast Arctic winterland on snowmobiles, fishing through holes in the thick ice on a lake, hurtling along the forest tracks on husky-drawn sleighs (everyone's favourite activity), snow-shoeing at night and again in the daytime for a forest picnic (our optional add-on for the last day), learning about the Sami way of life from a reindeer herder, visiting the famous Ice Hotel - well, everything!
Alpine Peaks of Greenland
By: Ann Shawley, S. Yorkshire, UK
Like to come in to office to discuss present and future holidays. I always receive a lovely welcome.
Wow what a fantastic trip. just didn't know what to expect as I had booked for Tibet but the trip didn't run, It was a spur of the moment decision but one I never regretted.
It was one of the must amazing things I have ever done. the boat was small but clean the staff were excellent, Phil the trip leader and Cecilla his co leader were everything you would want from leaders. Phil has run expeditions to all Polar regions and high mountains for years his knowledge was extensive.
The only thing I would say is don't take a hard case as there is no where to store it and it will take up a good portion of the cabin. I took my KE bag and just man aged to squeeze it into a small shelf. My room mate took a small hard case on wheels and it was a pain so I can't imagine what 2 would have caused.
One of the best holidays I've ever had. I'm hooked on Polar travel.
Snowshoeing in the Canadian Rockies & Yellowstone
By: Dilys Harlow, Gloucestershire, UK
This is a fabulous trip. The snowshoeing was excellent and the landscapes just amazing in both the Rockies and Yellowstone. This must be the best time of year to visit Yellowstone and appreciate its wildlife. It was reasonably challenging, great fun & a magical experience.
Francois was an excellent leader who skillfully matched the capabilities of the individuals with the aspirations of the group as a whole. He was entertaining, amusing, informative and efficient. He went out of his way to source the gluten-free food I needed so I never went hungry or felt excluded.
Grand Traverse of the Jura Ski Tour
By: Phyllis Pryot, USA
The holiday was excellent...with very good food and wine.
I wanted to say that Julia was extremely patient with us. She exhibited such enthusiasm and was careful to explain the philosophy of our "journey" with us. Even when not feeling absolutely up to par on one day, she nevertheless went out of her way to see that we were taken care of. She is a gem!!!
I enjoyed every bit of it. Of course, I enjoyed the wonderful artisan cheeses as well as all of the other French cuisine. Also, the weather was great and we were lucky to have fresh snow on three of the days of our week-long ski. I especially enjoyed learning about how the people of the Jura value their cattle and how they care for them so that they will produce the wonderful cheeses we were able to enjoy.
High Level Pyrenees Snowshoe Holiday
By: Mike Rooke, Isle of Wight, UK
Our guide John Howie was an exceptional leader. Good natured, attentive to all members of the group and a great host round the evening meal table. Given the appalling snow conditions (too much!) and the risk of avalanche, John revamped the itinerary that made the very best of a bad job. A credit to KE.
Fantastic grub. We were spoilt.
Central Pyrenees Snowshoe Week
By: Harriet Harris, Cambridge, UK
I was new to snowshoeing and to the region, so got a lot out of the holiday, despite the weather! But better too much snow than too little. Our leader was a fit, capable and very experienced mountain leader, with the sensitivity to adapt the demands to a fairly elderly group. His knowledge of the region is excellent. Every effort was made to find interesting activities for us daily, under very difficult conditions of too much snow.
I thought we were going to be more in a ski resort, and in a more standard "ski" chalet. We were buried in the country and the chalet environment was shaped by our leader's own interests and personality. A good holiday. The chalet is isolated in the country, which was very relaxing: reading books and chatting round the fire in the evenings, which suited me fine. We got out daily and I'm assured that the snow conditions made the snowshoeing particularly difficult - and hard work. I certainly hope to snowshoe again! And could re-visit the same region again very happily.
Inside the Arctic Circle - Skiing the Kings Trail
By: Richard Zanetti, Coventry, UK
Fantastic trip. Had a real sense of adventure and wilderness. Most days we didn't see anyone else on the trail and had to make fresh tracks in the snow. Huts were comfortable and the need to get water and wood added to the sense of adventure. I most enjoyed the great sense of wilderness and learning a new skill (cross country skiing). The huts were fanatastic.
Iceland's Volcanic Ski Tour
By: Tony Sturdee, Warwickshire, UK
The hut experience was most enjoyable, good food and company, we were an interesting mixed group. The skiing was fun when the winds were light and we could see. And the hot springs were an essential feature of day's end!
Weather described as challenging in the dossier. It was, but the best was made of it. The food in the hut was excellent, as was the stuff to make lunches and I much enjoyed the lashings of salmon etc!
