Chamonix & Gran Paradiso
By: Sarah Witt, Winchester, UK
The training, both on glaciers and the rock-climbing was excellent - I learnt a huge amount. Most enjoyed: The ascent of Gran Paradiso - reaching the summit as the sun came up, but just before the weather came in.
Swiss 4000 Metre Peaks
By: Bryan Hardaker, Kendal, Cumbria
These was my first 'proper' Alpine summits and culminated for me with the spectacular stretch of ridge approaching the summit of the Weissmies. Traversing a snow ridge which is less than a foot wide in places with 1000m drops on both sides is something I've seen in mountaineering books but never imagined I'd be capable of doing. Being lead by guides who I had complete confidence in meant that I learnt a lot, and gave me much more confidence in my own abilities at this level.
Monte Rosa Climb
By: Whitney Tinley, Decatur, USA
Owen was wonderful! A very thoughtful, helpful guide. When weather prevented us from going up Mt. Rosa, Owen found alternate excursions for us. I truly feel that he was part of what made the trip great. I enjoyed my guide, the huts, and the hotel in Zermatt.
Italian High Level Trek
By: James Macnab, Bolton
Very helpful info in the dossier and KE staff helped select the trip that best met my aims. This was a trip in varied terrain, mainly at high altitude. Food in high level huts was only average (but plentiful) but we only expect plain food there. Accommodation was generally very good, especially in the Italian huts. The pace of the trip was very good - moderate pace and steady progress. Excellent guiding and leadership from both Paul and Bruce. Both were very ready to answer questions regarding technique, diffficulty or route and deal with any concerns. Both happy to offer help where required - but fortunately did not happen often.
I achieved my aim - first ascent of 4000m peaks and learned basics of alpine techniques. A great experience. The Italian huts have a really good atmosphere and are very comfortable.
Gran Paradiso Summits - Trek the Alps of Italy
By: Kay Simmonite, Yorkshire, UK
The route was very well planned out and the length of days arranged well to allow for resting. The trip went through a range of landscapes and scenery and gave a really good alpine experience which tested skills on all types of terrain (scree/boulder fields/valley walks/glaciers/snow slopes/via ferrata etc) - exellent!
The scenery was amazing and I loved the mountain huts. Staying in mountain huts is a major part of the experience and the accomodation on this trip was great!
The holiday was brilliant. I have no complaints at all!
Bernese Oberland Haute Route - East
By: David Gallagher, London, UK
A beautifully conceived and executed route by Kathy Murphy, the trip leader. Only KE do this route and for this reason there was hardly anyone else on it. Thanks for a well organised and beautifully led trip.
Bernese Oberland Haute Route - West
By: Peter Curran, Guilford, UK
A wonderful experience: a well structured itinerary with challenging peaks almost every day, tough but manageable.
The challenge of reaching summits almost every day and of travelling on the ice. Also, the good teamwork that built up in the group as the week progressed, and the excellent leadership by guide Kathy.
Kathy was great, listened to group, made good decisions, approachable and helpful, obviously confident and highly skilled in the mountains.
One Week Haute Route - Mont Blanc to Matterhorn
By: Daniel Neild, Coventry, UK
Most enjoyed - Being on the glaciers for the first time with crampons. Different climbing via ferratas and rocks ( a bit of everything).
Paul was a great guide with lots of knowledge and very experienced. Felt safe all the way.
Classic Haute Route - High Alpine Trekking
By: Rene Dee, East Sussex, UK
I most enjoyed learning new skills, finding a new and demanding challenge, finding fellow travelers who were comparable in experience and fitness and discovering alpine huts in crazy places. I can't speak too highly of Kathy Murphy. She was a leader who inspired us to listen to her intently and follow her unconditionally. Her broad experience in the Alps and other mountains shone through, yet she was not pompous nor arrogant as a result of this. She was focused, calm and considerate of our needs at all times and gave us regular sound advice that got us through this extraordinary trek without incident or problems. I found the level of professionalism and support from your organisation excellent and worthy of my repeat business.
Mont Blanc Ascent with Gran Paradiso
By: Louise Mason-Lodge, Keswick, Cumbria
For anyone setting out on such an adventure, particularly for the first time, they need to know that from the moment of booking with KE to the achievement of the final objective you could not feel more encouraged, supported and enabled. The sense of achievement that KE and the team gave us was matched by the grandeur of our surroundings in the French Alps.
For anyone even contemplating such a trip then KE can be your only choice.
As mentioned the changes to the itinerary - I think all the group seemed to have a different idea of what we were setting out to do prior to arrival. I appreciate that it did state that they were subject to change but perhaps listing a couple of possible options would help.
The trip exceeded my expectations beyond all measure - having worked so hard to prepare I was unsure if I would succeed and unsure of how I would manage in conditions I had never been in before - we were all 'alpine virgins' but the ability of the team to elevate us to a level of confidence to achieve our goal was second to none. I could have planned this trip for twenty years and it still wouldn't have been any more perfect.
