Legless Man conquers Kilimanjaro
Climbing Kilimanjaro is a difficult task anyway, but to reach the summit as part of an eight day trek without legs is simply amazing, and that's what Spencer West has just achieved. Born in Wyoming in 1981, West suffers from a spinal disorder and had his legs amputated when he was five.
Because of the route, the journey was made on hand, in his wheelchair and, for the roughest sections, on the back of their porters. It was a terrific challenge, and West has cited the snow and his two companions being struck by altitude sickness as some of the more difficult setbacks.
