Cycling enthusiasts watch events in record numbers online
More and more fans are watching UCI mountain bike events on live video webcasts, according to a recent report.
Webcast audience figures of downhill events has risen to approximately 140,000, an increase of 40,000 on last year, whilst a record 154,862 tuned in to watch the Fort William downhill event, smashing a previous record by over 40,000 people.
The success of the online stream service has left some marketing experts excited about the future of broadcasting cycling events. UCI Marketing and Events Director Gerrit Middag believes the sizeable audience of faithful fans added to the growing number of curious newcomers encourages outlets to ‘further pursue innovative media solutions'.
With so much room for growth, the future of cycling looks rosy, and the sport will be looking to enhance itself during Olympic events.
