Ancient Tomb discovered in Peru
Peru is a land full of fascinating history and a recent discovery has added another layer of colour to its past.
On 13th July archaeologists discovered an ancient tomb in northern Peru that is thought to be about 1,200 years old. This dates from the pre-Inca Sican era and is a monumental discovery in that the tomb was that of an aristocratic Sican or Lambayeque person.
The tomb contained several expensive emblems of wealth alongside the remains, including a gold ear-flap, a silver-plated crown and around 120 silver and copper ornaments. As a member of the aristocracy the tomb presents a lavish burial that differs vastly to other burials in the area, such as that of a Sican priestess.
This new discovery demonstrates what a rich and intriguing history there is in Peru, and how much more there is to discover. If you would like to find out for yourself, take a look at our Inca trail tours to seethe best cultural sights of this fascinating country.
