Scottish climbing duo make Himalayan history
Sandy Allan and Rick Allen, who are both in their fifties, initially embarked on the route with a team of four colleagues, but the duo ended up as the only ones in their team who did not turn back due to the highly testing conditions.
The two men's achievement is the culmination of decades of hard work, which included a previous, unsuccessful attempt made back in 1995. Discussing their triumph, Mr Allan explained that they had learnt a great deal from this initial effort at negotiating the eight peaks, which reach an imposing height of 8,000 metres.
The pair's incredible exploits have been lauded by adventure travel enthusiasts around the world, which has led to Allan expressing his gratitude and admitting that he has found returning to everyday life at home somewhat boring by comparison!
