Plans for cable car access to Choquequirao Inca ruins
The sister site of Machu Picchu, Choquequirao is set to become more accessible thanks to plans for cable car access.
Reaching the site involves an overnight trek, but access to the Inca city in Peru is to be improved, which will hopefully result in similar visitor numbers to the more accessible Machu Picchu.
A pre investment study will be conducted by an eco tourism consortium to attract beneficiaries before moving ahead with the project.
If it takes off, the cable car would run 4km over the Apurimac River Valle, allowing 3000 visitors a day to access the site and reduce some of the pressure Machu Picchu sees. The 2 day journey to the site would be reduced to a 30 minute ride.
Until the cable car is built, you can access the wonderful Machu Picchu and much more with our Inca trail tours.
