AITO Sustainable Tourism Awards 2009
KE Highly Commended
We were delighted to discover this week that KE has been voted 'Runner-Up' in the annual AITO Responsible Tourism Awards. The award was strongly influenced by the work of students from Jo Richardson Community School during their 2009 Expedition to Mount Kenya. In conjunction with KE's partner charity, The Juniper Trust, the students had raised £8000 to fund a project to build three new classrooms at the run-down Island Primary School in the remote Kenyan province of Laikipia. During their visit to Kenya, they were also able to help in the construction work. This is an ongoing project, with more work planned for the future. The AITO guidelines for Sustainable Tourism fit naturally within KE's travel ethic.
