Peru Floods - Latest Update...
Machu Picchu temporarily inaccessible.... Many of you will have seen the reports about recent heavy rain damaging the railway line between Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo and resulting in hundreds of tourists having to be evacuated by helicopter. Machu Picchu is still inaccessible and the Inca Trail itself will be closed (as is usual) throughout February to allow cleaning of the campsites and other maintenance work to be undertaken. For those of you considering such trips as The Classic Inca Trail, Inca Trail and Beyond or Choquequirao to Machu Picchu, the important message that we are getting from our agents in Cusco is that work to repair the railway is ongoing and this vital route to Machu Picchu is expected to be fully functioning by the end of March.
