Who We Are

KE Directors - Tim Greening and Glenn Rowley

In 1983, Tim Greening and Glenn Rowley returned to the UK after a period of travelling in Asia and decided to create a travel company with a difference. Since their most recent expedition had been to K2 and Concordia at the heart of Pakistan's Karakoram Mountains, the company became 'The Karakoram Experience'. Today, as KE Adventure Travel, that same company has grown to become one of the world's leading independent adventure travel specialists. In addition to operating an unrivalled range of worldwide adventures in 70 countries, the KE team makes arrangements for private groups, school exhibitions and charitable organisations. Whether you seek to walk amongst the world's highest peaks, explore untamed wilderness areas, or witness first hand the wildlife or culture of far-off lands, we have the perfect adventure for you.

History

In 1984, with the help of excellent local contacts, The Karakoram Experience led one of the very first commercial treks up the Baltoro Glacier to K2 and Concordia. In subsequent years, Tim and Glenn led groups on a variety of previously unknown trekking routes in northern Pakistan and these became established 'classics', described in guidebooks the world over. From this initial success within northern Pakistan, The Karakoram Experience began to expand its influence in Asia. There were forays into neighbouring territories, such as the Tien Shan Mountains of north-west China in 1987. Then, a year later, a first expedition was made to climb some of Nepal's 'trekking peaks'. By this time, we had moved our office base to Keswick in the English Lake District and by 1990, we had also opened an office in Colorado, USA. The increasing demand for treks, climbs and mountain biking worldwide meant that, although still significant, Pakistan was now just a part of the story. In 1996, we changed the company name to KE Adventure Travel, to reflect the global range of travel experiences now being offered.

Today

We have a deserved reputation for innovation, for quality of service and for providing once-in-a-lifetime holidays. KE's accumulated expertise allows you to maximise your precious holiday time and to experience the very best of your chosen destination. There are now groups of KE adventurers enjoying a real adventure experience somewhere in the world on almost every day of the year. Our trips cover the globe - from Patagonia in southern Chile to the Canadian Rockies, from ascents of Mont Blanc to walking safaris in the Serengeti and from trekking to Everest Basecamp to biking across the Tibetan Plateau. KE has continued to grow and develop an increasing range of services. Alongside our extensive range of adventure trips, UK residents can now call upon the services of KE Travel, our own travel agency offering everything from package holidays in the sun, to city breaks, worldwide flights and services such as car hire and insurance. The increasing effectiveness of the internet meant in 2008 we were able to close the Colorado Office, administering all bookings from the UK.

Our Philosophy

KE's reputation is founded on a proven ability to provide quality adventure holidays that represent real value-for-money. From day one, we have been motivated by the desire to take small groups of like-minded people to some of the world's most remote and rarely-visited locations and to provide an authentic travel experience. We have always strived to look beyond the tourist traps and to provide itineraries that include forgotten mountain trails, hidden valleys, isolated villages and deserted coastlines. By taking you right up into the mountains and close to the local people and their cultures, we endeavour to provide a better understanding of each of our destinations, as well as memories to last a lifetime. Unwilling to rest on our laurels, we continue to seek out pioneering new trips to expand our range of classic adventures. Recent additions include adventurous holidays in places as widespread as Siberia, Kamchatka, Indonesia, Chile and Madagascar. Places that excite us - these are the places that we want to show you!
