Situated on the equator, close to Tanzania's northern border with Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro is a solitary, snow-capped giant. Rising to 5895 metres, this highest peak in Africa (and tallest freestanding mountain on Earth) presents an almost irresistible challenge to trekkers from around the world. Requiring no technical expertise, Kilimanjaro is a relatively straightforward climb and can be climbed by anyone of reasonable fitness and by way of a number of different routes. Whichever route you choose to take, you will start your trek at around 2000 metres elevation and be faced with an ascent of approximately 4000 metres to Kibo’s summit, at Uhuru Peak (Uhuru meaning ‘Freedom’ in Swahili).
To overcome this abrupt height gain it is important to choose an itinerary that has been well thought out and which allows adequate time for acclimatisation en route to the top. Unless you have undertaken a preparatory hike at altitude (such as on our Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro or Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro trips) you should not consider a Kilimanjaro ascent itinerary that includes fewer than 6 nights on the mountain before summiting. Be careful as many tour operators allow only 4 nights!
Our record of success on Kili is second to none
We have a greater than 95% success rate
on each of the routes we offer
KE has 20 years experience of working on the mountain and has used the same excellent local agent throughout that time. A cylinder of oxygen will be taken along with all KE group trips on Kilimanjaro. The team will be led by highly experienced mountain guides who know every inch of the mountain and are extremely skilled in assessing the weather conditions and looking after your health and wellbeing.
Kilimanjaro Porter Assistance Project
We
also make every effort to look after our local crews, who are, of course,
fundamental to the success of our Kilimanjaro holidays. KE works with the Kilimanjaro Porter Assistance Project and, in
recognition of the quality of care we provide for our local staff, we are listed
as a partner on the International Mountain Explorers
Connection website.
but don't take our word for it.... here's what some of our clients had to say!
This was an awesome trip and the most memorable birthday I have ever had. I was very impressed with the services provided and the people who provided them. Our guides were superb at setting a realistic pace and making sure everyone achieved their potential...... I shall definitely be recommending your company to all my friends and indeed anyone I meet! Karen Eastwood, West Midlands
It was our first real climbing experience and I am sure none of us will ever forget it. The only advice I'd give anyone who asked me about climbing Kilimanjaro is to go with KE Adventure Travel. Ariel Lees-Jones, Northwich
This trip was more amazing than I could have ever have hoped. I'm ready to quit my job and work as a porter or guide in Tanzania. I choose KE because I passed the shop window whilst walking in Keswick. Having compared KE with other similar companies I know I made the right choice. Thank you and keep up the good work.
