This contrasting Central American School Adventure is sure to challenge, surprise and excite any school group. It starts out with an exciting day of whitewater rafting on the Pacuare River, before settling in for a 2-night stay on a protected stretch of the Caribbean coast, seeking out the turtles of the Tortuguero. Crossing the isthmus by way of scenic Lake Arenal and the peak of Cerro Chato, we spend time on the nature trails and canopy-level walkways of the cloud forest reserve at Monteverde's. Then, after 2 days of hiking on the volcano Rincón de la Vieja, the group will have earned their final day's R&R on a Pacific coast beach.
Educational perspective
Costa Rica's splendid wildlife includes 850 species of birds, as well as endangered turtles, crocodiles and several types of monkey.
Amend or Extend
The 3-day round trip trek to the summit of Cerro Chirripo (3820m), Costa Rica's highest summit, makes an excellent challenge for adventurous school groups.

This adventure tour is designed to provide an insight into the many different elements which make up Costa Rica. It involves quite a lot of travelling and a number of day hikes. The toughest of these are the ascent of Cerro Chato on Day 7 and the hikes that we do on the volcano Rincon de la Vieja on Days 11 and 12. This is by no means a long or continuous trekking holiday. The itinerary also includes some shorter walks and one day of whitewater rafting. Each KE School Adventure is given a grade, taking into account the amount of walking involved, the difficulty of the terrain, the remoteness, the altitude and the overall length of the trip. The trips are graded on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most challenging. This trip is graded 4.
