School Adventure - Camino Cubano

Book Trip
Caribbean beaches Cuban tobacco fields

  • A School Adventure of Island fun in the Caribbean
  • Havana`s seafront promenade of the Malecon and its colonial architecture
  • The spectacular limestone `mogotes` landscape of the Vinales area
  • Swimming and snorkelling on the paradise island of Cayo Levisa

Cuba is the biggest island in the Caribbean, with a landscape of picturesque, rolling lowlands, limestone hills and endless tropical, white-sand beaches. We start our School Adventure in the capital city of Havana, which is memorable for its faded, but glorious Spanish colonial architecture and its colourful 40-year-old classic American cars. Heading to the south coast, we visit the Bay of Pigs and the colonial cities of Cienfuegos and Trinidad, before continuing our tour westwards to the lovely ‘Garden Province' of Pinar del Rio. Travelling through this welcoming country, we stop off to trek on forest trails, swim in natural pools, visit a tobacco factory and check out the Che Guevara memorial at Santa Clara. Although we have tried to include as much walking as possible, this trip is also about experiencing Cuba's great variety and our day of relaxation on the ‘paradise' island of Cayo Levisa makes a fitting finale to an excellent trekking based tour. Cuba is a great place to practise the Spanish language - the people are friendly and approachable and welcome the opportunity to speak to visitors to their country.

Trip Guide

This trip is a mixture of touring and sightseeing with a variety of day walks. The trekking elements of the itinerary are not difficult and are mostly along well-established trails through forest or between villages. Throughout the trip we stay in comfortable hotel accommodation except for the night spent in the Sierra del Escambray foothills, where we stay in basic camp cabins. This trip is suitable for anyone of average fitness looking for a cultural experience of Cuba  preferring a trekking component to their holidays. Each KE School  Adventure is given a grade, taking into account the amount of walking involved, the difficulty of the terrain, the remoteness, the altitude and the overall length of the trip. The trips are graded on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most challenging. This trip is graded 2.
