Equipment List
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.
You must bring the following items:
Hiking boots
Lightweight thermal or fleece glovesSocksTrekking trousers / pants
Waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
Underwear
Baselayer shirts (short sleeve & long sleeve)
Shirts or T-shirts (wicking)
Fleece jacket or warm jumper Windproof/waterproof jacket
Sunhat
Warm hat
Eyewear - Sunglasses
Basic First Aid Kit - refer to trip dossier for details
Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)
Water bottles 1 Litre / 1 quart (x2) 3 season sleeping bag*
Antibacterial handwash
Washbag and toiletries
Small towel
Small padlock (to lock your KE kit bag)
Daypack c.25 litres
Selection of dry bags (to keep trek bag contents dry)
Headtorch / headlamp with spare batteries
The following items are optional:
Cycle helmet(1) see notes
Trekking poles
Sleeping bag liner
Thermarest (note that foam mattresses are provided)
Gaiters (useful when walking through thorny sections)Trainers / sneakers or sandals for camp
Spare laces
Shorts
Wetwipes (note that water for washing can sometimes be scarce)
Insect repellant (DEET)Camera, media, spare batteriesPocket-knife (note: always pack sharp objects in hold baggage)
Repair kit (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)
Travel clothes
Toys / games / books etc.
Notes
(1)We recommend you bring a cycle helmet for anyone intending to ride mules or camels. Please note that these animals can be unpredictable and difficult to control, and if you wish to ride, this is at your own risk.
