A trekking adventure holiday walking in the Sahara desert in Egypt. From the bustling and fascinating city of Cairo we'll explore the amazing Pyramids at Giza before we start our walking in the Sahara. We'll then drive to the oasis of Bahariyya to meet our camel herders and trekking support crew. Then, for 5 days we'll be trekking through what is arguably the most picturesque part of the Sahara, made more dramatic by weird and wonderful wind-sculpted limestone formations. Baggage camels will enhance our walking experience in the Sahara, whilst unobtrusive 4WD support ensures our comfort. With our White Desert trekking complete we return to Cairo for some final souvenir shopping as we explore the Khan el Khalili Souq for a bargain. Our all new trekking holiday to the White Desert of Egypt is sure to appeal to those in search of a wild Sahara walking experience.
Trip Guide
On this treking holiday we will be travelling into a desert world which has been crossed by nomadic people and their camels for generations. Nowadays, the area is accessible by 4WD vehicles and there are established piste ‘roads' linking together the most important sights. We avoid these tracks as much as possible, using camels to carry our equipment and following ancient, unmarked routes. The underfoot conditions will vary but apart from the occasional rocky scramble to reach a viewpoint or soft sand when exploring the dunes, the tracks and trails we use are not difficult. We will walk for an average of 5 hours on each of days 3 to 6, covering as much as 15 kilometres each day and with a reasonable amount of ascent and descent. As this is a short trekking holiday, and at low altitude, we have given it the MODERATE grade.
