With its varied landscapes, cultural richness, favourable climate and welcoming people, Sri Lanka is a simply fantastic place for family holiday. This superb itinerary combines many of Sri Lanka's most colourful attractions, which range from towering waterfalls and Indian Ocean beaches to spice gardens, historic towns and some of the Buddhist world's most remarkable temples. Starting out with a visit to the rock fortress at Sigiriya and the cave temple of Dambulla, we enjoy a cultural show in Kandy and spend time with orphaned baby elephants at Pinnawela. We then head up to Newara Eliya in the 'Hill Country,' where we visit a tea plantation and hike to the dramatic viewpoint at World's End. At the Udawalawe National Park, evening and early morning jeep safaris allow us to get close to wild elephants and an incredible variety of birdlife. As a fitting conclusion to this great family adventure, we check into a beach hotel, for 2 days of surf, sand and watersports.

Is it for you? Suitable for children of 6 years and upwards.
Designed with children in mind, this trip includes a number of short hikes and sightseeing visits. The longest walks will take just 3 or 4 hours, with lots of stops to rest and enjoy the ever-changing scenery. We will be walking on generally good trails, on tracks and pathways through tea plantations and between villages. At low altitude and with no long days or sustained trekking, this trip has been given the EASY trekking grade. The trip also includes a short whitewater rafting trip.
