Book Trip
Climb four 4000 metre peaks in the Swiss Alps Climb four 4000 metre peaks in the Swiss Alps

  • Classic Swiss Alpine climbing week
  • Climb as many as four Alpine peaks in Switzerland over 4000m
  • Flexible climbing programme
  • Beautiful Saas Fee base
  • Switzerland`s finest refuges

An exciting adventure holiday in the Swiss Alps climbing 4000 metre high mountains. Surrounded by accessible 4000 metre peaks, the pretty mountain village of Saas Fee in Switzerland makes an ideal base for this Alpine climbing week with a programme of varied alpine trekking, easy climbing and general introduction to glacier travel. During 6 days, we will aim to climb four 4000 metre peaks in the Swiss Alps on a variable climbing programme. There are lots of superb 4000 metre peaks above the Saas Valley and with our high guide to client ratio, we are in a position to be flexible about the way the trip works, splitting the group if necessary to fit in with the abilities and aspirations of group members and the prevailing conditions. In the example itinerary given in the trip dossier, our first 2 objectives are the Strahlhorn (4190m) and the Allalinhorn (4027m), both climbed from the Britannia Hut and offerring tremendous views of the nearby Matterhorn and Monte Rosa and extending over 100 kilometres to the Mont Blanc Massif. From the Almageller Hut a traverse of the Weissmies (4023m) offers a superb day, ascending its south-south-east ridge and descending through spectacular glaciated terrain to the Weissmies Hut. The classic Lagginhorn (4010m), via the rock and snow of its west-south west ridge, provides a fitting climax to this truly memorable week of climbing. Whatever the individual programme, this holiday climbing in the Swiss Alps is guaranteed to be a real mountain adventure.

Trip Guide

This is real Alpine climbing, where a high guide to client ratio (1:3) is normal. The course has been designed to suit fit hill-walkers who want to progress to Alpine 4000 metre peaks. Group members should have some basic experience of using crampons and a single ice axe, either in the Alps or in the UK in winter. We will choose routes which are not technically difficult and which are feasible for novice alpinists. The climbing will involve glacier travel, snow slopes, rock scrambling and sometimes exposed ridges. Ropes, crampons and an ice-axe will be used.
