A wild and new safari and trekking adventure holiday to explore the Masai Mara in Kenya. Our trekking and safari holiday adventure to Kenya begins at the world-famous reserve of the Masai Mara. Here, from our camp beside the Sand River, we have a 2 day safari as we explore the Masai Mara amongst the migrating herds of wildebeest, zebra and Thomson's gazelle, as well as their predators - lion, cheetah and hyena. Then, after a short transfer from the heart of the Masai Mara to the Loita Hills, we will meet our Masai guides and set off for 5 days of trekking and explore one of best-preserved montane forest areas in Kenya. Heading east,our trekking follows cattle trails onto grassy ridges and through wooded valleys, accompanied at times by troops of striking, black and white colobus monkeys. Reaching our spectacular camp on the crest of the Rift Valley at Enkare Naibor, the views extend to Lake Natron, Lengai and Kilimanjaro. Our trekking then descends almost 1000 metres to our final, riverside camp on the Rift Valley floor. Our unique trekking and safari adventure holiday concludes with a drive back to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Trip Guide
This trip is timed to maximise the game viewing in the Masai Mara. Both departures are around the time of the Great Migration. We cannot of course guarantee that you will witness the migration of the wildebeest, but we do provide the best opportunity for game viewing within the Mara. The 5-day trek in the Loita Hills with Masai guides will be off the beaten track and will terrain will include trackless bush territory, dense forest, and ridge climbs to reach viewpoints. The trekking is not particularly difficult or sustained though the long descent into the Rift on Day 9 will be quite tough, mainly on account of the dramatic temperature difference as you descend into the heat of the plains. We have given this trip the overall grade of MODERATE.
