Exploring the Anti Atlas

Book Trip
Morocco Trekking Holiday in the Anti Atlas Morocco Walking vacation - Colourful markets of Morocco

  • A rugged winter trekking holiday through Morocco`s south-west
  • Trek the high ridge of Jebel Lekst
  • End the trekking day with sunsets on red granite rock formations
  • Quiet hiking trails of the Anti-Atlas
  • Moroccan handicrafts of Tafraoute

South of the High Atlas, the long chain of the Anti-Atlas is characterised by rugged rock formations, striking fortified Kasbahs, terraced valleys and hidden oases. Relatively few trekkers make it to this part of Morocco and it's usual to have the trails to ourselves, as we penetrate to the heart of this red granite massif. Sunsets are simply sensational, as the rocks reflect the light, changing from orange to red, to violet. We visit Berber villages and have the chance to meet the proud inhabitants of this ancient and arid land, whose tenuous survival depends on their herding of sheep and goats. Often in commanding positions, the village-fortresses of the Anti Atlas are dry-stone built and feature impressive doors and porches often with finely carved detail. Our superb 5-day trek leads through palm-filled gorges and across high passes and at our high point on the airy ridge of Jebel Lekst (2359m), the views extend northwards to the snow-capped summits around Mount Toubkal. The Anti Atlas provides a superb destination for mountain walking in winter, suitable both for first-time trekkers and for the more experienced in search of new horizons.

We also offer some fantastic extensions which you can enjoy after your trek. Or if you wish to spend a few extra nights in the enchanting cities of Marrakech or Essaouira please see our Moroccan Riads.
