Trekking and Climbing Tent Peak, Nepal Tent Peak, Annapurna Sanctuary, Nepal Hiking Holiday

  • Alpine climbing in the heart of the Annapurnas
  • Our shortest trekking peak trip
  • Hike the classic Annapurna Sanctuary route
  • Magical views of Machhapuchhre

Spectacularly situated within the Annapurna Sanctuary, Tent Peak (5633m) (also known as Tharpu Chuli) provides a simply superb objective for a short trekking peak expedition. Our picturesque week-long approach to the mountain traces the route of the classic Annapurna Sanctuary trek. From our camp at Annapurna Basecamp, we then cross the jumbled moraine of the Annapurna South Glacier to establish a high camp below the mountain's north-west ridge. A steep ascent, followed by an unforgettable summit ridge leads to a fabulous viewpoint, surrounded by peaks such as Annapurna South, Fang, Annapurna I and the magical 'Fish Tail' - Machhapuchhre. In little more than 2 weeks, this excellent new adventure can put you on top of your first Himalayan summit.

Trip Guide

This is a sustained trip which treks the classic route of the Annapurna Sanctuary and then ascends Tent Peak (5663 metres). The overall grade of the trip is DEMANDING. However, most of the itinerary follows good trails, providing straightforward walking conditions. As this trip is primarily aimed at those wishing to climb trekking peaks, the difficulty of the trekking will not be a major consideration. It should be noted that trekking at altitudes of up to and over 5000 metres / 16,000 feet is of itself demanding.

Climbing difficulty

The term ‘Trekking Peak' was coined in the seventies when trekking was a relatively new phenomenon. Few of the trekking peaks can be simply ‘trekked' up, and perhaps ‘Alpine' peak would have been the better term. For these peaks, experience in the use of crampons, of roped climbing, occasionally in exposed situations, and competence on such terrain, is essential. The approximate Alpine climbing grade Tent Peak is PD with 45 degree snow slopes and exposed ridge climbing. Fixed lines are used to protect exposed sections. If you are in any doubt as to your capability for any of these climbs, please give our office a call.
