Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Kathmandu. Complimentary airport transfers are provided. KE group package services begin with the evening meal.
Day 2: After the short and spectacular flight to Bhutan's only airport at Paro, we meet our Bhutanese guide and transfer to the group hotel in the Paro Valley.
Day 3: Morning hike to the incredible Taktsang Monastery which clings improbably to a cliff face. After lunch, we drive to the tiny capital of Thimpu and our hotel.
Day 4: We drive across the Dochu La to Punakha, then continue eastwards, turning off the main road into the delightful Phobjikha Valley. Overnight in a lodge at Gantey.
Day 5: An early wake up call as we go out to see the black-necked cranes. The rest of the day is free to explore this settlement with its impressive monastery.
Day 6: Today, we drive to Tongsa Dzong, then on to the town of Jakar at the heart of the district of Bumthang. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 7: The first day of our trek takes us beside the Dur Chu to the village of Thangbi and on to Ngang Lakhang, where we camp.The festival is in full swing and we spend a couple of hours at the site.
Day 8: We spend the morning at the festival, then continue our trek through farmland and forest and by way of the Phephe La (3353m / 11,000ft) to our camp at Tahung.
Day 9: A short final day of trekking leads to Ugyen Choeling. We visit this palace and its museum, then meet our vehicles and drive back across country to Tongsa.
Day 10: A long drive back across the passes, via Thimpu to Paro, where we check into our hotel.
Day 11: We take the morning flight to Kathmandu and transfer to the group hotel. We have a guided sightseeing tour of the city in the afternoon.
Day 12: A free morning. KE group package services end after lunch. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
