- Alpine mountain biking holiday - without the crowds
Slovenia seems to have been designed for mountain biking and every kind of trail imaginable can be found in the high valleys of the Julian Alps and neighbouring ranges. From our base in the small alpine town of Kranjska Gora, close to the border with both Austria and Italy, we head out each day to explore the best riding this delightful country can offer. You can expect fast and gnarly descents, challenging forest track climbs and singletrack thrills amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe. To add variety, we'll also be biking deep underground in a disused mine at Crna and sampling an afternoon of whitewater rafting on the stunning Soca River. Biking up from Lake Bohinj, through traditional hamlets to the alpine meadows at Uskovnica, there are great views of Triglav (2864m), Slovenia's highest mountain. We'll also enjoy some of the country's finest cross-country trails that link together the Karavanke and Kamnik ranges. As a finale we use a ski-lift to access the thrills of the downhill bike course at Kranjska Gora Bike Park - reconstructed each summer on the slopes of Vitranc Mountain. With great Slovenian food and hospitality and some of the best biking you've never had, we just know you'll love this holiday.

Trip Guide
FAT TYRE ADVENTURE - Our aim when setting up this mountain bike holiday was to create a varied and exciting experience that would not only afford us some fantastic biking, but also allow us to explore different mountain areas of Slovenia within reasonable daily vehicle transfer distances. To achieve this we used our own local knowledge gained from several years of mountain biking in Slovenia and in conjunction with local riders to provide a real mountain biking experience. The resulting adventure is aimed at regular mountain bikers, who are looking for thrills and a challenge. It is not really a suitable trip for beginners. Some of the climbs are quite long and many of the descents are fast and furious. This holiday has a bit of everything. Fire roads, technical rocky trails, Muletarias (WW1 singletrack mountain trails), forest tracks, man-made trails, challenging ascents and fast descents. Best enjoyed by regular riders looking for an alpine mountain bike experience on uncrowded trails. The support vehicle generally cannot follow the bikes. Average 40 km/25 miles per day.
