Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Anchorage. A single Anchorage Airport transfer is provided. KE group package services begin with an overnight stay in the group hotel.

Day 2: The morning is free to look around Anchorage and for last minute purchases. After lunch we drive for 2 hours into a wild landscape and have our first night of wild camping above the Matanusla Glacier.

Day 3: We drive through the Matanuska Valley and into the Denali National Park. We camp at Savage River Camp Ground alongside the park road. This is a basic campground with running water, toilets and tables.

Day 4: We have a day trip on a shuttle bus to the Eielson Visitor Center at the heart of the park. There are great views of McKinley on a scenic 2-hour walk. We return to the Savage River Camp Ground in the afternoon.

Day 5: After watching a demonstration of dog-sledding, we drive south to Trapper Creek and turn off on a dirt road to the Forks Roadhouse, where we have dinner. We then hike for an hour to our Austrian style lodge beside Kroto Lake.

Day 6: We enjoy a relaxing day at the lake retreat. There is the opportunity to take short walks around Kroto Lake, with views of Denali. Canoes and kayaks are available for use. We spend a second night at the lodge.

Day 7: A 6-wheel off-road bike and trailer takes our luggage, while we hike on a dirt road to the base of Peters Hills. We then trek through bush and tundra to our ridge-top camp.

Day 8: A long day hiking in the Alaskan wilderness, with views of McKinley. Heading for the Tokositna River, mostly above the tree-line and using game trails where possible, we reach Home Lake and set up our camp.

Day 9: Our rafts have been brought here by float plane. After a short training session, we begin rafting on the braided and glacier-fed Tokositna River and have great views throughout the day. Finally, we pull into shore and make camp.

Day 10: The river becomes a single channel near the snout of the Ruth Glacier, then joins the Chulitna River and heads south. Slower now, we continue to drift downstream. Camp on the river bank or on an island.

Day 11: After a final morning's rafting we reach the take out point close to Talkeetna. Our vehicles are waiting and we drive back to Anchorage where we check into our hotel. The rest of the day is free.

Day 12: After breakfast we transfer to the airport where KE group package services end.
