Notes
Backpack and Luggage: You will need a rigid frame backpack of at least 60 litre capacity which is comfortable for load carrying (around 12kg / 25 pounds). Your backpack will be carried by horses as far as the first camp at Piedra del Fraile. Thereafter, we will have the assistance of local porters for the movement of group equipment (tents, fuel, food supplies etc.). On these days group members will carry their own equipment and a portion of the group equipment between camps. Your travel clothes and other items not required during the trek will be left in your KE bag at the hotel in Calafate. We recommend that you also bring a lightweight pack or carrier for the items you require with you on the first days trek.
Mountaineering Boots: We recommend warm and substantial mountain boots, as temperatures can fall well below freezing. Recommended boots are - Sportiva Nepal (Top / Extreme / EVO GTX models), Scarpa Cumbre, Salomon Prothermic, Millet Alpinist GTX.
Crampons: We recommended the Grivel G12 New Matic or similar.
Snowshoes: If the conditions require that snowshoes be used, these will be provided locally.
