Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel near Grand Junction. A complimentary group transfer is provided. KE group package services begin with the overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: A short drive to Fruita where we ride some world class trails such as Chutes and Ladders. The trails in this area consist of fast, hardpack single track that weaves in and out of the sandy ridges that surround Fruita. We cover about 25 miles on 3 different loops taking about 4 -5 hours. Overnight at the group hotel.
Day 3: Today we do a large loop covering 19 miles in the famous '18 Road' area. The loop takes us high onto the mesa before we gain a narrow ridge that descends for several miles back to the waiting vehicles. We stay overnight tonight in a Fruita hotel.
Day 4: We ride a long continuous loop way out and up onto the cliffs around Fruita where singletrack abounds. The ride today is about 16 miles long with 1500ft of elevation gain. We climb high enough through the pine forest for great views of the snow-capped mountains to the South. Overnight in Fruita.
Day 5: The day starts with an early transfer (1.5 hrs) to Moab the home of mountain biking. We have a full day of riding on two of Moab's legendary trails, the Poison Spider and the Portal. The spider is a 2 track which climbs up from the Colorado River to the sandstone bluffs above while the Portal is a narrow and vertiginous single track with drops back to the river. Overnight at a condominium in Moab.
Day 6: Today, we will ride the awe-inspiring Porcupine Rim. This 34 mile loop starts and ends in Moab and climbs up to the rim where there are awesome views of Castle Valley with its monolithic sandstone towers. There is some riding on dirt roads and lots of technical single track with the odd carrying section. One of the best day's riding anywhere in the world.
Day 7: Today we have a rest day to take in the amazing local geology. There is an optional half day river rafting trip or a hiking/driving tour in the Arches National Park. Here we will see desert spires, natural arches and ancient petroglyphs and pictographs Overnight in Moab.
Day 8: After breakfast we ride the most famous trail of all, Slickrock. The Slickrock trail looks just like it sounds - a 7 mile loop almost entirely on Sandstone. The trail is marked with paint as it climbs, descends and weaves in, over and around the formations. The trail is technical with steep sections, short ledges and sand pits. Overnight in Moab
Day 9: We return to the big sandstone formations near Poison Spider to descend the Gemini Bridges trail, a fun and fast 16 mile round trip. The trail is moderate in technical difficulty, but we mix riding at speed with a few challenging spots for an epic ride. Overnight in Moab.
Day 10: The Amasa Back Trail is Moab's local favourite. It is a strenuous 11.5 mile loop which begins with a steep climb. The first descent is very technical and steep. The majority of the ride is on 4X4 roads that includes such terrain as slickrock, dirt pack and ledgy bedrock. Approximate riding time for this non stop, action packed, thrill ride is 2 -3 hours. Overnight in Moab
Day 11: We return to Fruita and ride some quite technical singletrack following 20 miles of the Kokopelli trail along ledges, over stair-like drops, and with spectacular views of canyon country. This evening we will join in the fun of the Fruita Mountain Bike Festival. There is also the opportunity to participate in the Fruita mountain bike race for an entry fee. Overnight in the Fruita hotel.
Day 12: Our last ride is 21 miles beginning with a climb on singletrack up through the desert and onto the mesa. The trail now winds back and forth along the rim and through the pine trees with short rocky technical sections and tight corners that challenge our bike handling skills. A classic blast descent ends the trip and we transfer to the group hotel near Grand Junction.
Day 13: KE group package services end after breakfast with a single group transfer to Grand Junction, Colorado Airport
