Renowned as India's most colourful state, Rajasthan is a fairy-tale land, perfect for family adventures. Travelling by train from Delhi to the Rajasthan capital of Jaipur, we enjoy a cultural evening combining traditional dancing and a puppet show. Then, a full day of sightseeing includes a visit to the fabulous Palace of the Winds and to the City Palace, followed by an afternoon elephant ride to the Amber Fort. Moving on to Ranthambore, we have 2 nights at a jungle resort lodge and a day of safari action in one of the few places in the world where it is actually possible to meet a wild tiger. We also make sure to visit some of the park's scenic archaeological ruins and temples, and to visit the Ranthambore School of Art - renowned for tiger painting. Then, after a pleasant drive through rural India, we have a day to explore the bird sanctuary at Bharatpur - taking a cycle rickshaw into the park to add to the experience. Crossing from Rajasthan into the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh, we pay a visit to Fatehpur Sikri, en route to our final overnight stop at Agra. Capital of the Mughal emperors from the early 16th to mid 17th centuries, this city is world-famous as the site of the stunning Taj Mahal. Atmospheric evening and dawn visits to this masterpiece of Indian architecture, provide a great way to sign off on this unforgettable holiday.
