- North to south traverse of the Kingdom of Jordan
- Take on the superb Dead Sea to Mount Nebo ascent
- See the ancient cities of Jerash, Karak and Petra
- Relax in the Red Sea resort of Aqaba
With its modern capital city, colourful history and unwavering tradition of hospitality, the Kingdom of Jordan is arguably the most attractive of Middle Eastern countries and with almost guaranteed winter sunshine, it is a superb destination for a road cycling holiday. Most people know about the star attractions of Jordan such as the ‘Rose-red City' of Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. But, there's a great deal more to Jordan, as this ‘End to End' road cycling journey will demonstrate. From Amman, we head north to visit the amazing Greek and Roman ruins at Jerash, before setting off on our long ride south to the Red Sea port of Aqaba, at the country's southern tip. With vehicle support and one of Jordan's top road cyclists as our guide, our first day's ride takes us to the Dead Sea, 400 metres below sea-level. Then, climbing up to Mount Nebo, we head south on the ‘King's Highway' via the Crusader castle at Karak to the high mountain plateau of Dana. We pass more castles and chasms, en route to the town of Wadi Musa, where we take a day off the bikes and enjoy a guided tour of the incredible hidden city of Petra. From the high point of the last day's ride, we have panoramic views across the desert, before descending to the Desert Highway for a final blast into Aqaba. A free morning, with the chance to take a dip in the Red Sea, is a good way to wrap up this unique and memorable cycling holiday.
Is this holiday for you?
ROAD ADVENTURE - This is a holiday for regular road cyclists, looking for an out-of-season training ride and a great travel experience in a part of the world that sees few foreign road cyclists. The roads are good and we have vehicle support throughout. After a short ride to check our bikes on Day 2, we average 95 kilometres per day over the next 6 days or riding, with one rest day at Petra. Whilst these are not long daily rides, there are a number of long climbs and descents, with an average of approximately 1200 metres of ascent and descent each day. Accommodation is in a mix of local hotels.
