South of the Atlas Mountains, the Jebel Sahro is a beautiful mountainous region of volcanic origin that makes an excellent destination for some winter sunshine trekking and a real cultural journey through a dramatic landscape. This is a rugged world of gorges and rock spires that shelters a number of picturesque Berber villages alongside offering some superb rock formations. Starting in Marrakech, we cross the Atlas at the Tizi n'Tichka (2260m) and traverse the Dades Valley with its kasbahs and palm groves to reach the start of our trek. For 4 fantastic days, we head south on quiet trails through the Sahro, crossing remote uplands and camping beside the stone-built summer settlements or ‘azibs' of the Berbers. Beyond our high point at the summit of Kouaouch (2600m), where the views encompass the snow-capped summit of Jebel Mgoun, our trek continues by way of the spectacular twin towers known as Bab n'Ali (Ali's Gate). We round off this wonderful week with the chance to explore Marrakech. If you're looking for a true `off the beaten track` trek and a rick cultural journey in a lesser known area of Morocco with time to explore magical Marrakech then this is the perfect Moroccan walking holiday!

Is this holiday for you?

The maximum altitude attained on this trek is not high and we will not be camping much above 2050 metres/6726 feet. This means that no-one should have any difficulty with acclimatisation to the altitude. However, the trek does involve a fair amount of ascent and descent and most days are approximately 6hours walking. At the time of our visit, the weather is ideal for trekking, not too hot. For most of the route, we are following well-established routes between valleys and villages which are suitable for mules and very straightforward for walkers.
