- Soak up the atmosphere and explore the ancient site of Pompeii
- Unforgettable hike along the `Walk of the Gods` to Positano
- Beautiful walking around Amalfi and in the Lattari Mountains
- Time to explore the Island of Capri or superb site of Herculanuem
On the south side of the rugged Sorrentine Peninsula, separating the gulfs of Naples and Salerno, sits the famously picturesque Amalfi Coast. A region of dramatic cliffs, sheltered coves, elegant piazzas and colourful picture-postcard towns clinging to the coast, teamed with a spectacular landscape of terraced farmland dotted with olive groves and lemon trees. Our introduction to this incredibly beautiful part of Italy is a walking journey through the very best of its hillside villages, Amalfi, Ravello and Positano. During the holiday we visit the atmospheric and fascinating remains of the ancient Roman town of Pompeii before enjoying an easy walk to the summit of the towering Vesuvius (1280m), with its spectacular views over the Bay of Naples. The week includes 3 days of superb hiking on ancient mule tracks and, as a splendid finale, a walk along the spectacular 'Walk of the Gods,' from Agerola to the stunning fishing village of Positano. This is an excellent walking week with a genuine flavour of Italy and, staying in a family-run hotel we experience the `real` Italy with all its exquisite flavours and colours.
Is this holiday for you?
This hotel-based walking week allows us to see all the spectacular locations nestled in this beautiful corner of southern Italy. The holiday includes 6 days of leisurely walking and, on several occasions the walking is largely downhill towards the sea. There can be as much as 5 hours of walking during the course of the day, mostly on good trails with some stepped sections. The day we spend on the island of Capri includes approximately 3 hours of walking, whilst the ascent of Vesuvius on the following day (Day 3) involves a 2-hour round trip and an ascent of about 200 metres on a zig-zagging trail.
