Annapurna Circuit and the Thorung La

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Kathmandu. Complimentary airport transfers are provided. KE group package services begin with dinner and overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: We make an early start for the drive across country on the Prithvi Highway towards Pokhara. Turning towards the north, we then drive through the Marsyangdi Valley as far as Dharapani (1860m), where we check in at our lodge accommodation. This long day of driving takes us as far as we can reasonably go on the ever-advancing road.
Day 3: Today, we set off on our trek through Bagar Chap and a number of other villages, with good views of Manaslu and Annapurna 2. Even during today's walk, we are obliged to follow sections of the new valley road. Beyond Lata and Koto, we arrive at our lodge accommodation in the important regional centre of Chame (2713m).
Day 4: Continuing our trek, we cross the river several times today, passing another spectacular gorge section and crossing a forested ridge, to finally reach the more open valley at Lower Pisang (3150m). We overnight at Upper Pisang (3300m).
Day 5: Today's walk will take us away from the valley floor and up onto its northern slopes, via the village of Ghyaru (3670m). There are superb views of the Annapurna peaks, as we traverse around to our lodge in the relatively isolated village of Ngawal.
Day 6: After our leisurely breakfast, overlooking the Annapurnas, we follow a gently descending trail back down into the valley. We pass above the airstrip at Hongde and rejoin the main valley trail at Braga. Here, we spend some time looking around the spectacular monastery, before completing our day's walk to Manang (3540m).
Day 7: A rest and acclimatisation day in Manang, with several options for day hikes that will take us up to 4000 metres. We spend a second night at our lodge in Manang.
Day 8: Only a short day, but we need to be aware of the increasing altitude as we approach the base of the Thorung La. Today, we trek via several isolated tea houses to our lodge at Letdar (4250m). Arriving in time for lunch, we take it easy in the afternoon.
Day 9: We continue our trek on the eastern side of the Jarsang Khola, with views back to Gangapurna. Beyond a bridge, a steep trail climbs across scree to the base of the pass at Thorung Phedi (4420m). To make the pass crossing easier tomorrow, we hike up for a further hour and a half to the lodge at Thorung High Camp (4750m).
Day 10: Starting from High Camp, there's no need for too early a start. After breakfast at around 6 am, we trek up to the Thorung La (5416m). Climbing on a zig-zag trail across scree, we can look back to the Chulu peaks. At the pass itself, we stop for the obligatory photos, before descending steeply to the pilgrimage centre of Muktinath (3800m).
Day 11: Keeping away from the jeep road as much as possible, our descent into the Kali Gandaki Valley takes us via Lupra, with views of Dhaulagiri ahead and glimpses of the red hills of Mustang away to the right. Reaching the stony river bed, we continue our walk to the town of Jomsom, where we overnight in a lodge.
Day 12: We take the short and exciting internal flight to Pokhara, where we check in at a hotel and have the afternoon free to stroll around the market streets of 'Lakeside'. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 13: We fly to Kathmandu. Arriving in the Nepalese capital, we check in at the group hotel. Afternoon free for independent sightseeing and souvenir buying.
Day 14: A free day in Kathmandu, with an optional guided sightseeing tour to include the impressive stupa at Bodhnath and the nearby temple town of Bhaktapur. We spend a final night at the group hotel.
Day 15: KE group package services end after breakfast. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
This holiday involves going to very high altitude. During the course of your trip you will be spending at least one night above 4000 metres and/or trekking to 5000 metres or above. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude.
