Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Yerevan. A single timed airport transfer is provided. We start with gentle sightseeing of Yerevan by visiting the Matenadaran Museum holding the world's largest collection of ancient manuscripts. We then visit the local farmers market before lunch and transferring to the UNESCO cathedrals of Echmiadzin and Zvartnots. Return to Yerevan. Overnight Yerevan.
Day 2: We start with the Geghard and the 7th century Cave monastery. An easy walk then takes us in the Garni Canyon with its spectacular geological features, before a visit to the 1st century AD Garni pagan temple. At a local village house we have a cooking demo and lesson in traditional Lavash (bread) and Tonri (bbq lamb). After eating our lunch we return to Yerevan for free time. Overnight Yerevan.
Day 3: This morning we drive (1.5hrs) to the Mt Aragats massif to the end of the road at Kari Lich Lake. From here we have an easy 3hr walk downhill to the 7th Century Amberd Fortress. Returning to Yerevan we have a tour of the Brandy Factory (tasting included!). We then have the option of visiting the State History Museum, or free time. Overnight Yerevan.
Day 4: We depart Yerevan today and head south to Khor Virap and Noravank Monasteries. We have time here to walk around and admire the views. We then transfer to Sevan lake with a short stop at a medieval Caravanserai on the silk road and a walk around the interesting ancient cemetery. Total drive time 4.5hrs. Overnight hotel Lake Sevan.
Day 5: We discover the Sevan peninsula with views to the Sevan Monastery before driving to Dilijan. We have some time in this spa resort town which is locally known as the Switzerland of Armenia. Transfer to Haghpat. Total 3 hrs transfer. Overnight guesthouse Haghpat.
Day 6: Today we walk from Sanahin Monastery to Haghpat Monastery (both UNESCO). The approx 4 hr walk takes us through farmers fields and through rural villages. After lunch we transfer (3hrs) to Gyumri. This is the second largest city in Armenia and near the borders of Turkey and Georgia. Overnight hotel in Gyumri.
Day 7: This morning we transfer to Bavra (1hr) where we cross the border into Georgia. We say goodbye to our Armenian team and welcome the guide from Georgia. We travel to the 12th century cave town of Vardzia. Stretching over half a km it has 19 tiers and is a true sight to behold! After lunch we transfer to Akhalsikhe. Time permitting we also visit the Rabat Citadel. Overnight hotel in Akhalsikhe.
Day 8: This morning we start with a tour of the town of Gori including the Uplistsikhe Caves with its wine-cellars, bakeries, and basilica church, and the Stalin museum. We then transfer to Gudauri, passing the 17th century Ananuri Fortress overlooking the picturesque Zhinvali reservoir. It's then onwards into the High Caucasus Mountains. Overnight hotel Gudauri.
Day 9: A lovely walk today through a valley with outstanding wild flowers, which mainly involves descend. The trail leads us to the 15th Century Khada fortress where we can eat our picnic lunch. We then continue to the village of Quesheti where we meet our vehicle to transfer us back to Gudauri. Approx walking time 4-5hrs. Overnight hotel Gudauri.
Day 10: A short transfer to Kazbegi, and then we start our gentle ascent (1.5hrs) to Gergeti Trinity Church. From here we have some stunning view of Georgia's highest mountain and that of the Caucasus, Mt Kazbek (5047m). Once we have descended we have the option of a further walk to the Gveleti Waterfalls. Overnight family homestay in Kazbegi.
Day 11: From Kazbegi we drive to the small hamlet of Juta. From here we have a picturesque walk to the foot of Mt Chaukhebi. The walking here is very peaceful as we follow gentle shepherds tracks in the valleys of the higher mountains. This linear walk takes us back to Juta from where we transfer back to Kazbegi. Approx 5hrs gentle walking. Overnight family homestay in Kazbegi.
Day 12: Driving south we stop at the ancient (3000 yrs old) capital of Mtskheta just outside Tbilisi. Here we visit the 6th century Jvari church and 11th century Svetitskhoveli Cathedral where the Robe of Christ is supposedly buried, both UNESCO sights. Transferring to Tbilisi we have the rest of the afternoon free. Overnight hotel Tbilisi.
Day 13: After breakfast it's our Tbilisi sightseeing tour, through its narrow streets, different religious buildings and famous 19th century houses. We may take the cable car to Narikala Fort and walk down to the sulfur baths. We also visit the Georgian History Museum and a stroll along Rustaveli Avenue. We have an optional wine tasting tour and then enjoy our farewell dinner. Overnight hotel Tbilisi.
Day 14: Early transfer to the airport for departure. KE Land Only group package services end with and a single timed transfer to Tbilisi Airport.
