Mountain Biking Around Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Nairobi. KE Land Only services begin with overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: After an early breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer out of Nairobi on the Mombasa road, turning off after 3 hours into the Chyulu Hills National Park. Here, we will have a picnic lunch before setting off on our bikes. Our ride takes us across pleasant savannah landscape to the Chyulu Ridge Camp, with views of Kilimanjaro. Ride distance 31 km (20 miles) with 250 metres of ascent.
Day 3: We set off cycling along the along the ridge and enjoy a fantastic 1000 metre descent to Oltiasika, a small Masai settlement beside the seasonal Lake Arpakai. After lunch, we continue cycling amongst Masai cattle and plains game to a camp near the Kimana Reserve. Snow-capped Kilimanjaro dominates to the south. Ride distance 54 km (34 miles) with 1250 metres of ascent.
Day 4: Today, we bike across the savannah towards Kilimanjaro. Nearer to the mountain, we find ourselves amongst cultivated land and we will stop for lunch at a farm on the Kenyan slopes of the mountain. In the afternoon, we ascend to the border town of Loitokitok. Overnight in cottages. Ride distance 47 km (29 miles) with 1050 metres of ascent.
Day 5: After breakfast, we drive to the border with Tanzania, complete the border formalities and drive on to Kamwanga. From here, we get back on our bikes for the ride to Londorrosi, through savannah and farmland. After lunch, we descend to our camp at Simba Farm, with views of Mount Meru en route. Ride distance 29 km (18 miles) with 900 metres of ascent.
Day 6: We continue cycling around Kilimanjaro, through banana plantations and forested areas. Beyond Kifufu Farm, we reach an area with many villages of the Chagga people. The terrain is quite challenging as we cross the deep gorges of several rivers flowing from Kili. Overnight camp at Lukani. Ride distance 47 km (29 miles) with between 1000 and 1800 metres of ascent - depending on the route.
Day 7: After a leisurely breakfast, we bike through banana and coffee plantations and small villages on this fertile side of the mountain. We share the trails with colourful local women, walking and cycling between village markets. Overnight camp at Kibosho Mission. Ride distance 26 km (16 miles) with 800 metres of ascent.
Day 8: We start the day with a short transfer to Kidia Gate (2500m) and from here cycle around to Marangu. We leave behind the banana plantations and find ourselves once again on open grassland. After lunch, we descend to the scenic Lake Challa. We camp on the rim of this crater lake. Ride distance 46 km (29 miles) with 1250 metres of ascent.
Day 9: Completing our anticlockwise loop around the mountain, we bike to the Taveta border post and make our return into Kenya. Crossing the plains and passing sisal plantations, we reach our overnight stop at Loitokitok. Overnight in cottages. Ride distance 53 km (33 miles) with 600 metres of ascent.
Day 10: After a breakfast spent admiring the views of Kilimanjaro, we board our vehicles for the return drive to Nairobi. Arriving in the Kenyan capital, we have the chance to freshen up at the group hotel, before transferring to the airport for the homeward flight.
