Algeria's Hoggar Mountains Trek
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous in Tammanrasset in the early morning. KE Land Only package services begin with the transfer to the desert where we meet our trek crew. We take a few hours rest and then after breakfast begin our trek. Passing beneath the impressive massif of Tinnemrut, we reach our camp at the foot of the mountain, Adra Hajjerine.
Day 2: We begin to adapt to the steady pace of the desert now, as we hike onto the Azoul Plateau, a part of the Tessa n'Adjena. A straightforward scramble takes us to some fantastic rock paintings. After lunch, we continue the trek to our camp at Tamsnejhak.
Day 3: With the camels setting the pace today, we trek amongst rock towers and traverse along dry wadis. Passing close to the rock peak of Aouknet, we stop for a long lunch, before a couple of hours in the afternoon brings us to our camp at Ihasseyen.
Day 4: We trek between Serget and Tabarak Rakt, with good views of the Touareg's holy mountain, Ilaman. We arrive at the foot of Jabal Tahat (2908m) and make the easy 2-hour ascent of this fantastic viewpoint peak. We camp at the base of the peak, with good rock carvings nearby.
Day 5: Today, we reach Assekrem and climb to the refuge of Pere Foucauld at its top, aiming to be there for the sunset, when the surrounding landscape is at its most dramatic. We camp below the peak.
Day 6: Today, we see more paintings and hike between the twin peaks of Tezouiags. We then take lunch and say goodbye to our trek crew. On our drive back to Tammanrasset, we stop en route at some impressive carvings and at a spring with pools. There is time for a shower in Tamanrasset, for souvenir shopping and for dinner, before a late transfer to the airport, where KE Land Only package services end.
