Arunachal Pradesh - The Bailey Trail

- Trekking in the land of the `dawn-lit mountains`
- An Indian remote and rarely-undertaken trek
- Tawang and its magnificent Buddhist monastery
- Colourful ethnic groups, including the Monpa
- India trek with high passes and glorious views
Beyond Bhutan, the great chain of the Himalayas continues eastwards into the mysterious territory of Arunachal Pradesh. Our trekking journey into this far-flung corner of India includes a 7-day trek on an ancient trade route, later followed by the British surveyor, FM Bailey and still bearing his name. Accessed by way of Guwahati, we transfer to Chander and begin walking through forest of oak, rhododendron and pine, up onto the highest pasture and across a succession of 4000 metre passes, with superb views of peaks such as Gori Chen (6488m) and Kangto (7090m). We enjoy several remote and pristine camps and have plenty of opportunity to visit the Monpa at their distinctive villages. Having completed the trek, we spend a day exploring the hill-town of Tawang, where the impressive 17th century monastery is home to almost 500 monks of the Gelugpa Buddhist sect. A new and very exciting adventure travel experience!
