Switzerland, Trek & Walk, 8 days - from £995 (land only) - from €1,195 (land only) - from $1,645 (land only)
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Arolla. KE Land Only package services begin with dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Meet the Guides after breakfast. After a brief introduction to the week ahead and an equipment check we pack our rucksacks and depart mid-morning. We set off through woods and then alpine meadows before crossing the glacier de Cheilon to the Cabane des Dix where we will spend two nights.
Day 3: An early start for our first objective, La Luette (3548m). A gentle glacier climb to a col, then a rocky ridge to the summit, with excellent views of the surrounding peak. Return to Cabane des Dix.
Day 4: Making the traverse of the Pigne d'Arolla (3796m.) is truly a classic mountaineering day. Its central position gives magnificent views across the Alps from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn and beyond! From the summit we descend to the Cabanes des Vignettes (3160m.)
Day 5: We ascend the Glacier du Mont Collon to the Col'de L'Eveque on the border with Italy. Depending on conditions we may make an ascent of the West Ridge of Mont Brule to it's west summit at 3498m. before descending from the Col Collon (3087m.) to the Rifugio Col Collon.
Day 6: We re-ascend to Col Collon (back into Switzerland) and descend to the Haut Glacier d'Arolla and then climb up to the spectacularly located Cabane de Bertol astride the ridge.
Day 7: With light daysacks, we make an early ascent of the Tete Blanche (3724m.) for fantastic views of the Matterhorn. We will be back down at the refuge in time for lunch, and afterwards we descend to Arolla and check in to the group hotel.
Day 8: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast at the hotel.
This holiday involves going to high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 3500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude.
