Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Kathmandu. Complimentary airport transfers are provided. KE Land Only package services begin with the evening meal and overnight at the group hotel.

Day 2: We take a morning flight to Pokhara, where we transfer directly to the roadhead at Phedi and make the short trek, largely uphill and on a good, stepped trail, to our first overnight lodge at the village of Dhampus (1700m.).

Day 3: Trekking through Pothana we cross a low pass, where we have our first clear views of the mountains ahead. We then drop down into the valley of the Modi Khola River to reach Landruk (1620m) where we make our second overnight stop.

Day 4: From the 'new' bridge below Landruk, we have a steady climb to the ridge of the Jhinu Danda, where there is a hot spring. Then, it's up the ridge to our camp at the the colourful village and several lodges of Chhomrong (2210m).

Day 5: A day of undulation as we follow the course of the Modi Khola on an often stepped pathway, through an area notable for its rhododendron and bamboo forest. We overnight at the place known as Bamboo (2310m).

Day 6: From Bamboo we climb through forest, passing the lodges of Dobhan and Himalaya, with the 'Fish Tail' peak of Machhapuchhre high up on our right. Passing Hinko Cave, we reach our lodge accommodation at the place known as Deurali (3170m).

Day 7: North of Deurali, the valley narrows even more, as we continue our steady ascent beside the ever-diminishing river to Machhapuchhre Basecamp at 3700 metres.

Day 8: A short morning's walk, with increasingly impressive views, takes us around to the Annapurna Basecamp area (4130m). We have lunch at our lodge and in the afternoon we can take it easy and admire the splendid mountain panoramas.

Day 9: Those looking to witness the spectacular sunrise will need to be up early. Then, after breakfast at the lodge, we retrace our steps as far as Dobhan (2540m).

Day 10: Today we are back into the forests again as far as Sinuwa, where we rejoin the stone steps that take us down to the Chhomrong River. A final steep ascent then leads to our lodge in Chhomrong.

Day 11: Taking a different route to that of our ascent, we contour around and then descend through rhododendron forest to the pretty village of Gandruk (1940m) on the western side of the Modi Khola.

Day 12: Our last day of trekking takes us down to the roadhead beyond Birethanti. Here, we meet our transport and drive to Pokhara, where we check in at our hotel. After lunch, there is time to relax and enjoy the special ambience of 'Lakeside' Pokhara.

Day 13: We have a morning flight to Kathmandu, where we check in at the group hotel. In the afternoon, there is the option of a sightseeing tour, followed by a celebratory dinner in the evening.

Day 14: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast. Complimentary airport transfers are provided.

Altitude

This holiday involves going to high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 3500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude.
