This unique itinerary has been set up for well-known photographer Colin Prior, who will accompany the group on their adventures in Bhutan. Entering Bhutan via its south-eastern land border with India, we start out with a 6-day trek through the mysterious and recently derestricted region of Sakteng, which lies between Trashigang and Arunachal Pradesh. Spending time with the distinctively attired Brokpa people, we will also be able to enjoy and photograph the stunning alpine landscape of an almost completely unknown part of Bhutan. After our hike, we travel west across Bhutan, stopping off to photograph a couple of Bumthang's most important festivals and with time for photography in several other important locations en route, such as the capital, Thimpu and the lovely Paro Valley with its spectacular cliff-side Taktsang Monastery. Offering the best of the 'Land of the Thunder Dragon' and the chance to benefit from Colin's expertise, this is a dream trip for travel photographers. Although Bhutan is one of the last unspoiled corners of the Himalaya, changes are taking place in the country as outside influences inevitably make themselves felt. This is your opportunity to visit the country and to document a unique way of life - before it is too late.

Over the past decade, Scottish photographer Colin Prior has journeyed more than a million miles seeking out the world's last wild places and peoples and his resulting work has received considerable critical acclaim. KE Adventure Travel have helped Colin with several of his photographic projects, including his first trip to the Karakoram Mountains of northern Pakistan almost twenty years ago, when he was collecting material which would subsequently be used in the British Airways Calendar and in the book 'Living Tribes'. Colin has also hosted several KE photographic holidays, including a trip to the Nepalese side of Everest and two previous trips to Bhutan. This photo special trip has been designed to give as much time as possible for the photographing of the areas of Bhutan that we visit. The trekking element of the trip is a 6-day journey through an unspoiled and little-visited area of Eastern Bhutan, newly opened up to trekkers and presenting an opportunity to see at first hand, a way of life unchanged over centuries. The trekking is not particularly difficult and we follow good trails used by local traders. We have graded the trip at our lowest level of MODERATE on account of the short duration of the trek and the relative low altitude (compared to other Himalayan treks). However, it should be noted that trekking at altitudes of between 2000 and 3000 metres is more demanding than at sea-level. You will need to be in good shape for this trip and comfortable with walking for 6 to 7 hours on the longest of the trekking days, with some steep uphill sections lasting up to 2 hours or more. The trip also involves some long driving days through a fascinating landscape to visit the festivals and ensure we capture the highlights of Bhutan both east and west.
