Bangkok to Phuket Road Cycling Tour
Thailand, Bike - Road Cycling, 11 days - from £1,345 (land only) - from €1,885 (land only) - from $1,995 (land only)
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Bangkok. A single timed transfer from the airport to the group hotel in Bangkok is provided. The remainder of the day is free. KE Land Only package services begin with dinner and the overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: Meet the guide in the morning for a pre-trip briefing. Then, begin our journey with a 2-hour transfer to Petchaburi. From here, we head out into rural Thailand through paddy fields and on road lined with palm trees. Coastal riding through Cha-am to our hotel in the beach resort town of Hua Hin. Total distance approx 63 km (39 miles) with 50 metres of ascent and descent.
Day 3: With the beach on one side and the spectacular limestone peaks of the Sam Roi Yot National Park on the other, we follow quiet back roads and pass through lots of small villages. Expect great seafood at our hotel in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Total distance approx 118 km (74 miles) with 180 metres of ascent and descent.
Day 4: More coastal riding to the KeeRee Waree Resort at Ban Krut. We are now well away from the tourist areas and the roads are quiet and well maintained. Our accommodation is on a serene beach - time to chill out in a hammock and listen to the surf. Total distance approx 70 km (44 miles) with 160 metres of ascent and descent.
Day 5: A free day to rest and enjoy this idyllic spot. You can relax at the beach, swim in the salt water pools at the resort, or wander around the fishing village of Ban Krut.
Day 6: Well rested, we set off on a longish day to Chumpon. This is the narrowest part of the peninsula and the route sticks to the coast on quiet roads, with the sea on our left and rugged mountains to our right. Total distance approx 127 km (80 miles) with 500 metres of ascent and descent.
Day 7: Crossing the Isthmus of Kra, which separates the Gulf of Thailand from the Andaman Sea, we follow an undulating road through jungle-clad mountains. Beyond the waterfall at Pun Ya Ban, it's downhill then flat all the way to Ranong. Total distance approx 140 km (88 miles) with 700 metres of ascent and descent.
Day 8: Another day of undulating biking through valley scenery, with many villages and no doubt lots of children calling out 'farang' (foreigner). We stop for the night at a pleasant resort at Khuraburi, surrounded by rainforest. Total distance approx 127 km (79 miles) with 685 metres of ascent and 635 metres of descent.
Day 9: Still heading south, we reach Takua Pa where the road becomes less hilly. Rubber plantations now cloak this area which was formerly important for tin mining. A final, small hill takes us up to our hotel above the beach at Khao Lak. Total distance approx 100 km (63 miles) with 387 metres of ascent and 447 metres of descent.
Day 10: The last leg of the journey takes us through Phang Nga to the bridge which will take us across to the tropical paradise island of Phuket. Overnight at a pleasant resort on Surin Beach. Total distance approx 103 km (64 miles) with 580 metres of ascent and descent.
Day 11: The morning is free for some well-earned relaxation. Then, in the early afternoon, there is a single group transfer to Phuket Airport where KE Land Only package services end. Depart Phuket.
