Trekking the Ridges and Summits of Bulgaria

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Samokov. A single timed group transfer is provided from Sofia Airport to the group hotel. KE Land Only package services begin with the evening meal.
Day 2: A short drive to Borovets ski resort from where we take the mountain gondola up to Jastrebec for our ascent of Bulgaria's highest peak, Mount Musala (2925m), and also the highest point of the Balkan peninsula. Overnight at our pension in Samokov. Total walk distance 14km, 723m of ascent, 642m of descent. Approx 6 - 7 hours walking.
Day 3: A short transfer to the Vada Hut (1200m) from where we begin our traverse of the Rila Mountains via the picturesque Seven Lakes. Our summit point is at Razdela (2620m) and from here we descend to UNESCO-listed Rila Monastery where we'll be able to spend some time viewing the architecture and murals. Total walk distance 23km, 1262m of ascent, 1725m of descent. Approx 9 hours walking.
Day 4: Beginning at Kirilova Poliana we follow the Tiha Rila valley to Ribni Lake Hut before traversing the main ridge of the Rila Mountains via the summits of Vapa (2532m) and Chemerna (2511m). Views extend to the Pirin and Rhodopi Mountains beyond. Descending to Semkovo, we transfer to overnight accommodation in Dobrinishte. Walk distance 19km, 1185m ascent, 1282m descent. Approx 9 - 10 hours walking.
Day 5: Transfer to the Doze Delchev Hut for our 2 day trek into the Pirin range. Taking a chairlift to Lake Bezbog we make our ascent via Lake Popova to the stunning high hanging valley of Tevno Ezero, or `Dark Lake` where we overnight in the pine mountain hut at approx 2500m. Walk distance 7.5km, 627m of ascent, 363m of descent. Approx 4 - 5 hours walking.
Day 6: We traverse the valley and enjoy walking along the fantastic Pirin ridges, surrounded by summits, lakes and valleys before descending to the Vihren Hut and then taking a transfer back to our hotel in Dobrinshte. Distance 11.5km, 1026m of ascent, 476m of descent. Approx 6 - 7 hours walking.
Day 7: The climax of the trip - a full day walk to the imposing Pirin summits of Mount Vihren (2917m) and Kotelo (2911m) via the airy Marble Ridge. Vihren is a distinctive summit and the highest in the Pirin range with views to Macedonia and Greece. A challenging and fine mountain day. Distance 12km, 1205m ascent, 1205m descent. Approx 8 - 9 hours walking.
Day 8: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast with a single timed group transfer from Dobrinishte to Sofia Airport.
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
