Croatia's Southern coastline, with its relaxed Mediterranean ambience, offers an area rich in lush national parks and lovely coastal trails. This superb walking holiday explores the very best of the Dalmatian Coast and its areas of outstanding natural beauty, including the islands of Lopud, Korcula and Mljet. During the week we'll walk through pretty vineyards in the lovely Konavle countryside, hike to the majestic top of Mount Snijeznica, stride out along the ancient walls of Ston on the Peljesac peninsula and take in the forested ridges of Korcula Island, the birthplace of Marco Polo! Travelling between islands by local ferry, we climb to the highest points of Lopud and Mljet for stunning views over the coast. On each of our 5 walking days we will have a moderately paced hike of between 10 and 15km. During the afternoons there will be time to relax or explore the local towns and harbours. The holiday ends with a day spent in the unique walled city of Dubrovnik, one of the world's most beautiful cities and known as the pearl of the Adriatic. With its beautiful tiled roofs, stone towers and stunning walls, Dubrovnik, which appears to rise from the azure sea is enchanting. The city offers a feast of medieval architecture and baroque churches interlaced with pavement cafes hidden down secluded lanes and alleyways. Croatia remains one of Europe's most beautiful destinations and the Dalmatian Coast is the perfect location for a relaxing walking holiday, which offers plenty of sunshine, mouth-watering food and excellent local wines!
Is this holiday for you?
The walking on this Croatia Coast and Islands holiday is not particularly difficult or sustained. On each day we will have an optional hike of around 10 to 15km with ascents typically between 150 and 225 metres. We will be walking on a variety of trails from quiet country roads to rough paths through the trees and along the coast and also on the walls at Ston. In general the paths are good with no difficult sections and no degree of exposure. While there is sufficient walking on each day to satisfy regular hikers, it is intended that this should be a relaxing holiday with a gentle pace.
