Camino Cubano - Trekking in Cuba

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Havana. We provide a single group transfer timed to the arrival of the preferred group flights. KE Land Only services begin with the overnight at the group hotel.
Day 2: This morning we have a sightseeing tour of Havana's historical centre. We have lunch in a local restaurant in the town centre. In the afternoon we transfer to Santa Clara. Overnight hotel in Santa Clara.
Day 3: We transfer to Hanabanilla where we start our first walk. We walk through various coffee plantations and cultivated fields, on low level and undulating terrain. At Lake Hanabanilla we board a boat to Rio Negro where we have lunch. During the afternoon we cross the lake by boat to explore before transferring to Topes de Collantes. Here we have a chance to discover this small town before dinner.
Day 4: Today we walk in Parque Guanayara. In the mountains here the forest is cooler than at the coast, and the forest is full of interesting flora and fauna. There are a few short ascents and descents but on good trails. We arrive at the hacienda for lunch and then we can walk to the waterfalls and pools for a refreshing dip! Overnight lodge/hacienda.
Day 5: Leaving the park we have a short walk along the Salto del Caburni - Vegas Grande - Mi Retiro footpath. We arrive in the natural reserve of Salto del Caburni where we can enjoy a swim before continuing to Salto de Vegas Grande. After lunch in Mi Retiro we transfer by vehicle to Trinidad. Overnight in hotel in Trinidad.
Day 6: This morning we have a sightseeing tour of Trinidad visiting the Museo Romantico and have a cocktail at 'La Canchanchara'! We transfer to Camaguey where we have lunch before continuing to Bayamo. Overnight hotel in Bayamo.
Day 7: We transfer to Contramaestre. From here we have a short walk through coffee plantations and Sierra Maestra farming villages. We finish at the waterfalls near the hotel where we have lunch. The afternoon is free to swim at the waterfalls or just relax. Overnight El Salton.
Day 8: Today we drive back to Bayamo where we have a city tour. We transfer to our hotel outside Bayamo and have the rest of the day to relax. We can opt for a walk along the river Yara, or just enjoy the picturesque cabins in the foothills of the mountains.
Day 9: Our walk to the summit of Pico Turquino starts in Alto de Naranjo after a jeep ride from the hotel. In the morning we walk to Fidel Castro's revolutionary headquarters of La Plata, which is now a museum. After this we walk to the village of La Platica for lunch. After lunch we ascend on a steep path to the forest station at Aguada de Joaquin. Overnight in a simple cabin. Approx 8 hrs walking.
Day 10: An early start to the day as we try to get to the summit at around 10am after ascending past Alto del Cardero (1265m). Arriving at the highest peak in Cuba at 1974m we have an early lunch before returning to our start point and the hotel. From here we transfer to Santiago de Cuba. Approx 9hrs walking.
Day 11: After a leisurely breakfast we have a sightseeing tour of Cuba's second largest city Santiago de Cuba. We then have the rest of the day to relax.
Day 12: Our journey back to Havana begins with a drive to Camaguey. Here we have lunch and then a sightseeing tour of the town. Overnight Camaguey.
Day 13: Today we have a full days drive as we continue back to Havana. On arrival we may have some time for souvenir shopping before dinner at the hotel in the old town of Havana.
Day 14: After breakfast we transfer to Havana's International Airport where KE Land Only services end.
