Walk the Camino de Santiago - The Way of St James
Spain, Trek & Walk, 8 days - from £895 (land only) - from €1,255 (land only) - from $1,460 (land only)
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel. A single timed airport transfer is provided. KE group services begin with evening meal.
Day 2: Our first stage of our walk along the Camino de Santiago takes us through traditional rural Spanish stone villages past orchards, vinyards and pretty forests and through meadows. This undulating section of the walk brings us to the small town of Portomarin on the Mino River. In the 1960s this town was moved brick by brick to higher ground as the original area was flooded for the reservoir.
Day 3: From Portomarin we continue along the Way through the verdent countryside. Having enough time and energy we can make a small detour to the Romanesque church at Vilar de Donas (a national monument). We arrive in the afternoon in the town of Palas de Rei where we overnight.
Day 4: Today is a slightly shorter day as we continue downhill to the small town of Melide. We pass the pretty villages of Casanova and Leboreiro. Crossing over the beautiful medieval bridge of Rio Furelos we arrive in Meilde where we find many little cafes and restaurants serving local specialities and is a good place to spend some time relaxing. Overnight Melide.
Day 5: From Melide we walk on the cobbled pathways out of the town and over several streams following a wooded track to the village of Boente, which has an interesting church. From here we arrive in the medieval village of Ribadiso and into Arzua. In Arzua there are two churches to visit, Santa Maria and La Magdalena. Overnight Arzua.
Day 6: As we near Santiago we meet more pilgrims converging from the various routes over the North of Spain. Today our destination is Rua. The path takes us over further undulating hills which are landscaped by the farmers for local agriculture. After passing the chapel of Santa Irene with it's unique statues we finally descend into Rua where we overnight.
Day 7: A final day takes us by foot all the way into Santiago. We pass the village of Amenal and climb a high point at Lavacolla with views over Santiago. From here the path becomes more urban as we walk through the outskirts of town, before finally arriving in the centre of old town Santiago with its friendly small streets and of course the magnificent cathedral. Overnight Santiago.
Day 8: KE group package services end after breakfast. Single timed group transfer to the airport.
