Trekking in Cappadocia and the High Taurus

Day 1: Rendezvous at Kayseri Airport. KE Land Only package begins with a 2 hour group transfer to Cukurbag village in the Aladaglar Range where we'll set up camp and prepare for our first night under canvas.
Day 2: After a traditional Turkish breakfast, we start our first day of trekking as we walk through the foothills of the Aladaglar Mountains. Today sees us hiking through the Aladaglar National Park before setting up camp in the beautiful Emli Valley. Walk distance approx: 4hrs, ascent 300m.
Day 3: Trekking today takes us through the Mangirci Gorge and onwards, through cedar and junniper woodland to the grazing area at Alaca Yayla, which is a wonderful area to meet local shepherds. After enjoying a picnic lunch whilst admiring the views, we'll descend back to the Emli Valley by way of the seasonal shepherds' camp at Oluk Sekisi. Walk distance approx: 5-6hrs, 650m ascent and 650m descent.
Day 4: This morning we trek into the Siyirmalik Valley, passing a nomadic camp at Eznevit, an area known for it's welcoming semi-nomadics. We should have the opportunitiy to take tea here and learn a little about their lifestyle. We'll be surrounded by fantastic views along the trails before setting up camp for the night at Sokulupinar. Walk distance 6-7hrs, 800m ascent and 538m descent.
Day 5: Today we enjoy a lovely day-hike from camp as we initially head up to the grazing area of Arpalik Yayla. This area is ibex trerrain and if we're lucky, we may get to see some up on the high plateau. After relaxing over a picnic lunch at the stunning alpine Lake of Dipsiz (2900m), we return back to our camp at Sokulupinar. Walk distance approx: 6-7hrs, 900 ascent and 900m descent.
Day 6: A challenging day today as we head up high, accompanied by our team of horsemen and pack-animals, to our high camp. We trek through the Karayalak Valley via the Celikbuyduran Pass (3450m) before setting up camp on the Yedigoller (Seven Lakes) Plateau. Walk distance approx: 6-7hrs, 1450m ascent & 350m descent.
Day 7: A day spent at high elevation as we admire the striking scenery and prominent peaks of Narpuzbasi and Direktas. Initially we return to the Celikbuyduran Pass and from there ascend along a ridge to Emler Peak (3723m). After admiring views of all the Taurus peaks, we return to our camp at Yedigoller for some relaxation or a lake swim! Walk distance approx: 5hrs. 623m ascent & 623m descent.
Day 8: An early start is needed today as we walk out of this remote and beautiful spot. After passing the second largest lake on the plateau and crossing the Teke Kalesi Pass (3517m) we descend on a narrow trail via Yildiz (Star) Lake until eventually reaching Lake Karagol, where we set up camp for the night. Walk distance approx: 7hrs, 420m ascent & 720m descent.
Day 9: Our last day of trekking in the High Taurus Mountains as we follow trails that lead us down through the Maden Gorge and finally to a roadhead. After lunch we pick up our support vehicles and drive towards the fascinating area of Cappadocia. In the afternoon we arrive in Guzelyurt and check into our hotel. Walk distance aprox: 4-5hrs.
Day 10: Today we start walking in the Ihlara Valley, a beautiful 14km long canyon scattered with hundreds of rock cut rooms and churches. In the late afternoon we transfer to northern Capapdocia and on the way visit the superb underground city of Derinkuyu. Tonight we stay overnight in a comfortable hotel in Goreme, situated in the heart of Cappadocia. Walk distance approx: 4hrs walking.
Day 11: Today takes us through the Meskendir Valley as we follow trails through Cappadocian rock formations passing ancient cave houses and complexes from the old Christian civilization. From the Meskendir Valley we cross over to the Red Valley, considered the most beautiful in Cappadocia with its stunning formations and colours. We spend a second night at our hotel in Goreme. Walk distance approx: 5hr.
Day 12: After breakfast, we will drive to Kayseri Airport, where the KE Land Only package ends.
This holiday involves going to high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 3500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully.
